These sets of strings are intended for multi-string instruments, i.e. mostly 6- and 8-string bass guitars. Choose the proper string thickness based on the active length of the strings (from the nut to the bridge) and the tuning that you use. Heavier strings are better for short neck lengths, while thinner are sufficient for long necks. If you tune down, thicker strings will come in handy.
